George von Klitzing ist ein in Dortmund geborener deutscher abstrakter Maler, der seit dem Jahr 2000 in Hamburg lebt und arbeitet. Sein künstlerischer Weg ist eng mit der Musik verbunden. Nachdem er im Jahr 2000 aus Dortmund nach Hamburg zog, um sich ganz der Musik zu widmen, war er dort über drei Jahrzehnte als Sänger in verschiedenen Punkrockbands aktiv.

Während der Corona-Pandemie, als gemeinsames Musizieren, Proben und Auftritte nicht mehr möglich waren, verlagerte sich sein kreativer Schwerpunkt auf die Malerei. Was als unmittelbare Reaktion auf den Stillstand begann, entwickelte sich zu einer eigenständigen künstlerischen Praxis.

Goerge von Klitzing arbeitet vorwiegend mit Acryl auf Leinwand. Seine Malerei ist abstrakt, gestisch und prozesshaft. Dynamik, Schichtung und körperlicher Einsatz prägen die Arbeiten. Alle Keilrahmen werden von ihm selbst gebaut und die Leinwände eigenständig bespannt. Material, Format und Oberfläche sind integraler Bestandteil des Werks.

It doesn’t always have to be punk rock.

George von Klitzing is a German abstract painter born in Dortmund who has lived and worked in Hamburg since 2000. His artistic career is closely linked to music. After moving from Dortmund to Hamburg in 2000 to devote himself entirely to music, he was active there for over three decades as a singer in various punk rock bands.

During the coronavirus pandemic, when playing music together, rehearsing, and performing were no longer possible, his creative focus shifted to painting. What began as an immediate reaction to the standstill developed into an independent artistic practice.

Goerge von Klitzing works primarily with acrylic on canvas. His painting is abstract, gestural, and process-oriented. Dynamism, layering, and physical effort characterize his work. He builds all the stretcher frames himself and stretches the canvases independently. Material, format, and surface are integral parts of the work.
